"If you bore me then I'm comfortable
If you interest me I'm scared
My attraction paralyzes me
No courage to show my true colors that exist
But I want to be the real thing
But if you catch my eye can't be authentic
The one's I loath are the one's that know me the best" No Doubt, Magic's in the makeup

Restless

As you may have realized by now, I watch a fairly substantial amount of movies. Not all are good, of course. Some are really bad and not worthy of mention. Some provide great entertainment but leave you the moment you close your TV set. And then, there are those movies, who, without necessarily being Oscar-worthy, stay with you. Haunt you-in the best of ways. Restless is one of them. It starts off quite slowly and is, by all accounts, quite strange. But it slowly becomes a great metaphor for love and an ode to life. I've been thinking about some of the dialogues all week. Death is never an easy subject to approach but Gus Van Sant did it beautiful. Watch it. Get inspired. And rejoice in the fact that you are alive and kicking. xox

"There’s this kind of songbird that thinks it dies every time the sun goes down. In the morning when it wakes up, it’s totally shocked to still be alive, so it sings this really beautiful song.”—Annabelle

“As I write this letter, the ocean breeze feels cool on my skin. The very ocean is soon to be my grave. They tell me I will die a hero, that the safety and honor of my country will be the reward for my sacrifice. I pray they are right. My only regret in life is never telling you how I feel. I wish I were back home. I wish I were holding your hand. I wish I were telling you that I have loved you and only you since I was a boy. But I am not. I see now that death is easy. It is love that is hard. As my plane dives, I will not see the face of my enemies. I will only, instead, see your eyes. Like black rocks frozen in rain water. They tell us that we must scream, “Banzai” as we plunge into our target. I will instead whisper your name and in death, as in life, I will remain forever yours."

"The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed." Ernest Hemingway

Yesterday, tomorrow and today

I usually get to work around 9:30am every morning. Most mornings, I’m in a stressed-hatetraffic-gottobeontime kind of mood. But yesterday, yesterday, I took my time to enjoy a perfect Fall morning. Yesterday, I drove to my favorite part of town (Westmount), with the wind breezing through my windows, sun in my face and wonder in my eyes. I can’t quite explain it, but it felt perfect. Perhaps, because I was still on my Restless high (more on that later). Or perhaps, because I just took time to appreciate. To really see. To marvel. Even at the cute, beardy guy who smiled and talked to a gentleman at the bus stop (swoon). So, let’s do this more often. Let’s remind ourselves how lucky we are to be alive and to be happy and healthy. Let’s see the beauty in everything. Uncloud your mind and live. Yes to it all. Xox
