Nouvelle Vague
Obsessed with The Wave from Hiroshige & Hokusai. Obsessed. It adorns my desk at work. I don't know what it is about it but I am just drawn to this image and now, to all of the Japanase ukiyo-e art (paintings done on woodblocks dating as far back as the 17th century). Now that I think of it, I have been strangely attracted to all things Japanese lately. As a matter of fact, almost gave into a beautiful coffee-table book on Kyoto flowers last week at Chapters. Then realized it would be useful if I had a coffee-table to put it on.
And speaking of The Wave, had a flashback about Nouvelle Vague, the awesome French band that does remakes of new wave songs. Used to listen to it all the time at my old job. Much better than elevator music.

I bought a fabric reproduction of "The Great Wave" by Hokusai in Tokyo last year. It now hangs in my living room and I'll think of you everytime I look at it. You beautiful girl.

ReplyDeleteGreat CD, but nothing will ever beat:
"Welcome to my space ship, you're beautiful forever, 1 is a number..."

ReplyDeleteNice,
I've always been attracted of the Japanese art, culture, people, language, food...etc.
This part of your blog I find it beautiful and interesting.
The second photo is the best for me because is cherry flowers named SAKURA in Japanese and they have a big celebration for this.
Oh yes yes I'm also attracted of this culture because ``je parle Japanese`` like; Tokyo, Toshiba, Toyota..yaris :)
All the best.
