Easy Rider

Having an Easy Rider moment. Suddenly would like to ride through the Midwest with Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda, clad in Native American inspired fringe leather, smoke a little (oups!) and partake in all kinds of shananigans (minus the brothel visit for me-no thanks- and the machete killing-that's a no no too). So pretty much, I would just like to ride through the desert with my idealized versions of Dennis and Peter, in the 60's, despite all the deprived stuff that happens in the movie and the dying at the end. Mmm so basically, I should stay home.

I could have Hanneli Mustaparta's great sense of style! Love the boho-chic elements of her wardrobe and how she makes everything her own. She has that cool Scandinavian vibe down to a T (she is Norwegian).  Is there such a thing as a cool Canadian vibe?

Frangipani: Diane Von Furstenberg's flower of choice!

By now, you guys know that this is a favorite look of mine! But still, I had to share this. This look from the DVF S/S 11 runway is amazing! Fresh, glowing skin. Mascara. Matte hot pink lips. Notice how the rest of the look is so streamlined, from the chignon to the bare ears. Against a black backdrop, this is just perfect. And speaking of DVF, read this great "get to know me" fiche that she did for In Style October 2010, and I love her even more. She splendidly says: "Once you figure out your suitcase, you figure out your life." And it's so true. If you can un-clutter your suitcase, you can un-clutter your life. If you find your essentials then no need to over-consume. If you figure out what you can live without than you don't have to. Brilliant.

Rick Leong

Just discovered Rick Leong's work and I am smitten. The Concordia University Graduate (like yours truly!) got his first break after the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, purchased a piece from his graduation thesis showcase. Since then, the Victoria, B.C. native, has been featured in a plethora of cool art spots all over the map. His work explores the landscape and plays on the unexpected, as in, what the viewer perceives. If you are in Montreal, you can catch him at Parisian Laundry, all through October.

I am not an animal

I don't have the pretension to say that I get checked out a lot. In my head, I don't really. This just stems from a combination of both great modesty and low self-esteem (which, everyday I strive to work on getting to greater heights). When I do get checked out, however, or rather when I realize it, is when I get called on like some cow as part of a bigger cattle. Guys, out there: what could possibly give you the impression that it is attractive to say to a girl: "whoooooa mmmhoww ouaiiiss chkchk"? Or that she may actually get turned on upon hearing such lovely discourse? I mean, you can: nod, smile, say "bonjour", open the door, but not holler at me like you would say, a donkey, a horse, or any furry four legged-creature. I mean, c'mon.

Love Nicole Richie's outfit in this picture. Love the yellow velvet blanket/wrap with paisley accents. Love the Chanel sunglasses. Could never pull denim shorts with stockings but here's to hoping.

Too Delectable

  • W MAG: Is that why you watch a lot of reality TV? Are you looking for the truth on, say, Cake Wars?
  • RYAN GOSLING: In a way. You do see human nature on those shows. But unfortunately fondant has changed the entire nature of cake decorating. It used to be more creative—fondant has changed everything.

Easy on the eyes and a wicked sense of humor. Not much more you can ask for.

Stuck in a rut

Charlotte Gainsbourg: always French chic!
I want hair like Lily Aldridge

Too cute! nothing to do with fashion but I had to put it in!

So I don't know if it's because of the seasons change or because it's gray and rainy or because I am not going back to school (hence no excuses for a wardrobe overall) but I am so tired of everything in my wardrobe. It happens to me from time to time where I would love to give everything to charity (and I give a lot to charity) and start brand new. Some may perceive the subject of my wardrobe as shallow or superficial and they are right. It kinda is. However, there is more to me than being "fashion girl". Simply, I am passionate about beautiful things, whether it be art, or food, or photography. What's amazing to me with clothes is that I get to wear beautiful things on me. And I feel good when I enjoy what I wear. Please forgive the long-winded explanation but it was deemed necessary by the author. ;) Here are some rockin' stylin' pics that inspire moi.

Feeling a little blue today hence why I would wear navy with this deliciously rich burgundy-brown vintage croco handbag if I could.

Twitter me a script

So I've been wanting to talk about this forever, but next thing I know, Monday passes me by and so does this subject. MTV live never fails to surprise me with their out-of-this-world skits and jingles. It's a guilty pleasure of mine. My sister and I watch it and we die, seeing Paul Lemieux's face or Sheena rolling topless on the floor at a wine-tasting conference. My favorite of their numerous shenanigans is Twitter me a Script, a concept so genius, I wonder why no one has thought of this before. Every monday, if you ever so wish, you can tweet @darynjones a script (in 140 characters or less, of course). Then MTV selects the best one and on that night's edition, Daryn, Nicole and Paul play out your script. The subjects vary greatly, from a unicorn going through a time machine to an employee getting fired from watching Bonerflage.com online. Anyways, enjoy the weirdness above if you dare.

White love

Monday-ouach! How was your week-end sweet friends? I was sick as a dog so I obviously spent mine in bed. Wow. What fun-not. So no great outdoors, no friendly gathering, no pictures for moi. :( Anywhoo,  came accross the delicious white lace gowns that sashayed down the Dolce & Gabbana Milan runway this week-end. Imagined myself too strolling down the streets of Milan and forgot for a moment that I felt like complete poo. Hope it can make you forget your Monday too.

Le mot de la fin

"I sometimes think that people’s hearts are like deep wells. Nobody knows what’s at the bottom. All you can do is imagine by what comes floating to the surface every once in a while."

Honeymooning

All photos via A Cup of Jo
And whilst on the subject of weddings...take a look at the breathtaking pictures of Joanna Goddard's honeymoon on the Almalfi coast of Italy. Ever since seeing Under the Tuscan Sun, I've been dreaming of visiting Positano. I have been to Italy but went as far south as Rome and now...well I want to go!! Don't you?

Take me

Away! As in, to Tahiti, like in this beautiful photo spread by Darren McDonald. By the way, how fantastic is this wedding dress? This is actually my dream wedding: by a beach, with flowing gown and hair and a crown made a flower. Sigh.

Gimme

Happy Friday lovelies! What are you up to this weekend? For me, it will be: gym, relaxation time, and the great outdoors on Sunday as I am going to Ausable Chasm, New York. Can't wait to hike and see fall's beautiful palette. And if I'm lucky, there will be enough time for me to drop by Plattsburgh and go get the most delicious sugar-powdered pretzels at Auntie Annie's. But one must get though the day before the joy of farniente for 2 days. And how will I do that? By daydreaming of a toy pig. I WANT one! I'm absolutely serious. Right now, I almost have a farm at my house but one day, I will for sure have one. How amazingly cute are those? Cuteness overload.

Decoded

I was reading on Perez Hilton's last night about Jay-Z's new book: Decoded, which decodes 36 of Hova's greatest success. Already, this is a pretty awesome concept. What is even more awesome is the cover of the book which is one of Andy Warhol's Rorschach painting. I must say that I was not familiar with these series of painting, having been put in contact only with Warhol's most mainstream work. But man, this series is INCREDIBLE.  Using his pour-and-fold technique, Warhol created symetrical networks, some with distinct genitalia imagery. Warhol allegedly got inspired from Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach eponymous test, in which a patient is asked to describe 10 standardized blots. Brilliant!
